Hanth, William

William Hanth was born on January 11, 1922, in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. William was the middle child and had four brothers: Frank, Andrew, Paul, and James.

William graduated from North Coventry High School. After graduation, he worked at Pottstown Plate Works.

William entered service in the Army on October 1, 1942. He served with Company K, 338th Infantry Regiment, 85th Infantry Division. The 338th Regiment embarked for Hampton Roads Harbor on December, 1943 on board the USS General William Mann. The 338th Regiment was the first to see combat during World War II on the Minturno-Casterforte line north of Naples.

Private First Class William Hanth died of wounds received in action on June 3, 1944, in Italy. He is buried at the St. John’s Creek Catholic Cemetery in Pottstown, Pennsylvania.
