Campbell, Noel

Noel Campbell was born on July 1, 1919 to Lillian Campbell who lived in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania.   

Noel attended Kennett High School and left before graduation to find employment. He worked at the Lukens Steel Company.

Noel enlisted in the Army on December 7, 1941. After basic training he served with the Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. 

Sergeant Noel Campbell was killed in action April 15, 1944 in North Africa. His name is memorialized on the Tablets of The Missing the North African American Cemetery in Carthage, Tunisia.

Noel was awarded the Bronze Star with an Oak Lead Cluster, as well as the Purple Heart.

Noel's last action may have been one saving the life of his friend. It has been reported that Noel told his friend to go ahead and save himself.  He was never heard from again.
