William Thomas Johnson was born in Nebraska on December 5, 1917. He was the second olders of six children. Hiss family moved to West Chester, Pensylvania in 1937.
William was known as a good son, and diligent worker. He was a member of the West Chester Church of the Nazarene where he was active in Young Peoples and Sunday School work.
William entered the Army on June 18, 1943 and after basic and advanced training was sent overseas in February.
Private First Class William Thomas Johnson was Killed In Action on July 29th 1944 in New Guinea. His parents had just received a letter from their son on July 24th, telling them he was in the thick of battle “we are in it”, but assured them he was all right.
A memorial service was held on Sunday November 11, 1944 at the Church of the Nazarene.
His brother Wayne served in the Army in the European theater and was wounded 3 times. His brother, Eardley served in the Navy.
