Cox, Leroy

Leroy Cox was born in August 29, 1910 to John Franklin and Anna McConnell Cox who loved in Russellville, Pennsylvania. Leroy had two brothers.   

Leroy entered service in the Army on January 15, 1941. He served with the 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd, Infantry Division. The division trained at Fort San Houston, and then Camp McCoy, Wisconsin in November, 1942. In October 1943, they were deployed to the European Theater and continued training in Northern Ireland and Wales. The Second Division crossed the English Channel to support the Liberation of Europe on June 7th. 

Private Leroy Cox was killed in action on June 12, 1944 in Normandy, France. He is buried at the Normandy American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mere, France.

Leroy was awarded the Purple Heart.
